October 2024's Newsletter

Hello students & parents,

Happy Birthdays this month:

  • Jason

  • Ilias

For this month, the following classes will be focusing on:

  • Morning Taiji: Wuxing Qigong (5 Animals)

  • Evening Taiji: Taiji 13 (Reduced classes - only 6 in October)

  • Beginner Gongfu: Special classes: Joining the Advanced Gongfu classes on Tue/Thur nights

  • Kid's Gongfu: Lian Bu Quan (Continued)

  • Advanced Gongfu: Jibenquan Wudang with all students

UNIFORMS: Now that it's getting cool, full uniforms are back & mandatory to wear now for all classes. You're still asked to wear official undershirts as well.

OCTOBER CALENDAR: Please also pay attention to the calendar! October is one of the freak months where it's long because of the layout of days. There are multiple days where there will be no classes, including Halloween. The calendar is also available on the school's app.

NEW PHOTO GALLERY: Asking for previous event photos or recent photos? We now have a photo gallery on the school's app. We'll continuously update the photo gallery over time, but feel free to check out the current photos, grouped by event.

SASH TESTING FEES: As a reminder students, previously mentioned in a past newsletter, the following charges for sash testing are listed below, which include the sash. These were announced the same time when admission fees went up this year. Moving forward, testing fees are charged the day of or day after of your testing:

  • White to Orange: $20

  • Green: $30

  • Blue: $50

  • Red: $80

  • Brown: $100

  • Black: TBD

BEGINNER CLASSES + ADVANCED CLASSES

Disciple Li Jie will be joining the Wushu Camp & Cultural Exchange Program 2024 in China for October, representing not only the US but our school as well! We're super proud of her accomplishments and can't wait to see photos & hear all of her stories. She'll be showcasing her skills and competing in a local tournament, as well as attending the International Shaolin Wushu Festival in Zhengzhou, along with visiting cultural sites like the infamous Shaolin Temple. For those who love gongfu, she'll be completing a goal & pilgrimage most of our students would dream to do. I encourage all students to eventually do the same goal of training in the motherland of gongfu (plus it gets you heavy, sash-ranking points).

With that said, Li Jie's Beginner Classes normally taught on Monday & Wednesday nights will temporarily join the Advanced Classes on Tuesday & Thursday nights. Not only will this be a great time for Beginner students to spend time with Shifu Lei (getting an additional 4 hours of training for the month), it will also be a symbiotic class of Beginner students seeing what's ahead of them, as well as Advanced students leading the pack and holding their standards higher knowing they're being observed. Often times we can get complacent, and sometimes all it takes is a little humility and being humble to recognize that you need to improve your skills to level up to the next class, or brush up on your skills to get back to the level that's expected of you. We'll all be brushing up on Jibenquan Wudang, one of the favorite forms for competitions.

Beginner students will also get their first introduction to Sanda sparring (Chinese Kickboxing) that the Advanced Students do. We'll go over the basics of Sanda, and depending on those who learn quick & are eager to get some ranking points from fighting that normally don't get the chance to get, they're also invited to do light sparring with a few of our advanced students with over 50+ fights under their belt. We ask ahead of time for them to bring their own groin cup and customized mouthguard (we have extra sets of sparring gear until they permanently join the Advanced Classes and need to order their own individual gear).

We're looking forward to seeing a packed class with everyone. It'll be a first that we're looking forward to.

HOUSEKEEPING ITEMS

  • With Beginner students joining the Advanced classes, you can use the extended parking north of our lot if the usual parking lot is full. We're allowed to park there at night, just don't obviously block their garage doors.

  • Please hurry to change & save all post-class chatting to the lobby or outside - the locker room gets very crowded (especially with Beg + Adv Classes) and either students need to leave before the next class comes in and/or before we close up shop after the last class of the night.

  • If you've been with our school at least a month and still haven't ordered a uniform yet, let us know! This is mandatory for all students, INCLUDING TAI CHI STUDENTS, who've been with us at least a month. Please respond to your emails ASAP and use the ordering link HERE.
